The School System: Why Are Changes Needed?

Muster

The school system, as we know it, is outdated and no longer meets the needs of today’s world. Teenagers aged 9 to 19 face numerous challenges that hinder their creativity, personal growth, and ability to make the right decisions about their studies and future careers.

The Stigmatization of Creativity

The current school system often suppresses creativity by emphasizing standardized tests and uniform curricula. According to a study by Robinson (2006), many schools prioritize academic achievement over creative problem-solving, which can negatively impact students’ creative potential. Creativity is essential in the 21st century, and it is crucial to foster diverse thinking and innovative solutions.

Uncertainty in Study Choices

Teenagers frequently feel lost when it comes time to choose their future studies. Many lack the information and support needed to make the best decisions for their future. Research shows that only 30% of high school graduates feel confident in their study choices (Smith, 2018). This highlights the need for better guidance and counseling to help students discover their strengths and interests.

Future Changes and Required Skills

Today's world is changing faster than ever before. Automation, artificial intelligence, and other technological advancements are reshaping the job market, meaning teenagers must be prepared for lifelong learning and adaptability. The World Economic Forum (2020) reports that by 2025, more than half of all employees will need to acquire new skills. This underscores the importance of developing students into flexible and creative thinkers capable of adapting to new challenges.

Conclusions

To ensure that our school system meets the demands of the modern world, it is essential to reform teaching methods, placing greater emphasis on fostering creativity, critical thinking, and adaptability. Providing students with guidance and information about study opportunities must be a priority so that everyone can find their path and contribute to society's well-being. This is precisely why MUST'er academy and MUST'er pre-university were established.

We are incredibly proud that in Lithuania, we now have the opportunity to promote the awareness, creativity, project development, and future skills of children and teenagers. Furthermore, we can offer teenagers the chance to explore various professions alongside professionals in their fields.
